The urban
and environmental redevelopment carried out in the Park of Nations is of great
interest not only because of the innovation and quality of its environmental recovery
projects which it was made up of, but also due to its diversity. In effect, in a section
of land on the scale of the Park of Nations, it is not normal to witness such a
great variety of environmental problems and solutions such as those which were encountered
and implemented in this case.
The urban and environmental
redevelopment operation could be compared to veritable laboratory, where the best
environmental management and recovery techniques were implemented, in search of a part of
the city which had long ago been forgotten.
In this context the Environmental Workshop project was
inaugurated on the 17th of May, 1999, the objectives of which were to publish the
techniques and solutions associated with the EXPO98 project, so as to best transmit
to the public the size and quality of the environmental redevelopment carried out and,
simultaneously, to contribute to raising the awareness of the environment.
The structure, products and activities
idealised for the Environmental Workshop, with innovative and pedagogical characteristics,
will be directed towards a large segment of the population (with special emphasis on the
young), thereby arouse in them a better appreciation of the advantages of preserving the
environment. |
